Gemotions

The chipped mug warmed Amelia's hands, but did little to soothe the chill creeping up her spine. Sunlight slanted across the kitchen table, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air, a scene she usually found comforting. Today, though, it only highlighted the emptiness of the space where she and Sarah usually sat, dissecting their days. A pang resonated in Amelia's chest, a knot she couldn't seem to untie. She replayed the conversation, the way Sarah had recounted the summer camp incident, the one they'd both sworn to secrecy about for years. The details, the emotional weight… they were vastly different.

Amelia’s stomach lurched as she remembered Sarah’s version of the events. It felt like a betrayal. The air in the room grew thick, hard to breathe. Her fingers tightened around the mug, knuckles white. She could still hear Sarah’s laugh, the casual dismissal of Amelia's own memory, and it felt like a door slamming shut.
