Clara wandered aimlessly through the park, kicking at loose pebbles on the path. The vibrant autumn colours usually lifted her spirits, but today they seemed muted, drained of their usual brilliance. She had met with Emily for coffee this morning, and the conversation had left her feeling profoundly unsettled. They'd been discussing their shared trip to the coast, their first real adventure together.

Emily's descriptions of the trip, of the shared joy and laughter, felt alien to Clara. The memory was fraught for her. She recalled the constant anxieties, the overwhelming feeling of isolation, the sense of being lost and alone. The gulf between their experiences was vast, leaving her feeling utterly isolated.
