He stared at the rejection letter, the words blurring through unshed tears. The scholarship. The dream. Gone. He needed to prove he was worthy, so he went through his old things. Anything to give him hope.

He found it in the back of the closet, a battered box. "David - School." Inside, a testament to his younger self’s ambitions. She had saved his drawings and his test papers.

He felt the familiar sting in his eyes. He hated this. He hated the vulnerability, the pressure. He felt this tightness in his chest. His hands shook as he started to flip through his old papers. He thought of crumpling them into a ball and throwing them away.
