"Oh," she said, the word barely a whisper, as she read her sister's text. Her lip trembled slightly. It's not happening. The sentence reverberated in her mind, stealing the joy she had been anticipating.

Her hands, usually steady, were trembling as she reached for a glass of water, spilling some onto the counter. The kitchen, usually her sanctuary, suddenly felt sterile and lifeless. She set the glass down with a resounding thud.

She felt a tightening in her chest, a physical weight she couldn't shake. Her mind raced, replaying her own excited plans. The disappointment, a sharp, unwelcome stab, lingered. This was not how the day was supposed to be.
