The soft glow of the bedside lamp cast long shadows across the room. Emily feigned sleep, listening intently to the gentle murmuring coming from her husband, Daniel. He thought she was asleep. Daniel was not a quiet sleeper.

Every so often, a word would stand out from the unintelligible stream of noises. Emily knew the words, but they weren't in English. They were in Korean. He spoke in a soft murmur, like he was talking to someone else.

She held her breath as his voice continued, feeling a prickling sensation run down her spine. A sudden, sharp pain flared behind her eyes. He must have been doing this for a long time.
