Gemotions

The desert wind whipped around Leo, stinging his eyes with sand. He’d lost his job, his savings were dwindling, and his dreams felt as barren as the landscape. The isolation gnawed at him. He approached the mailbox with a sense of dread, expecting more bad news.

There was an envelope, unusually festive, amidst the bills and junk mail. He flipped it over, no return address. The front of the card read, "Wishing you sunshine". He felt a flicker of surprise, followed by a surge of… something.

He opened the card. Inside, a single sentence: "Hope your smile stays bright." Leo closed his eyes. The wind howled a sad song. He held the card in his calloused hand, feeling a strange mix of emotions he couldn't sort out. He just stood there, motionless.
