The new house felt like a physical manifestation of her own anxieties - sprawling, labyrinthine, and filled with unseen dangers. She'd hoped the move would alleviate the constant worry, the relentless churning of her mind. Instead, it had intensified, amplified by the unfamiliar surroundings.

She'd been avoiding the basement, the darkness there mirroring the shadows in her thoughts. But a persistent sense of unease had driven her down the stairs. Behind a stack of old paint cans, the wall felt different, colder to the touch. With a click, a panel swung inward.

The room was small, sparsely furnished, and illuminated by a single, flickering fluorescent light. In the centre, a large, locked chest. A key, glinting dully, sat on a small table nearby. Her hands trembled as she reached for it.
