Gemotions

Eliza sat on the park bench, the setting sun casting long shadows. She’d just seen David, her supposed soulmate, holding hands with a woman she’d never met. They were laughing, the kind of easy laughter she’d always craved to hear from him. A burning sensation started behind her eyes, the beginning of tears she desperately fought to contain.

She squeezed her hands together, knuckles white. The birdsong, usually a soothing balm, now grated on her nerves. She wanted to scream at the sky, to tear at her hair. This was a nightmare.

She closed her eyes, trying to block out the image of them, the ease of their connection. She felt the tears starting to escape, tracking down her cheeks. Her whole world felt wrong, distorted.
