The cream-colored envelope felt heavy in Amelia's hand. She'd been avoiding the mail all week, a mountain of bills and circulars accumulating on the kitchen counter like a physical manifestation of her anxieties. Now, this. Her high school reunion. Ten years. She glanced at the date scrawled in elegant calligraphy. It was next month. A nervous giggle escaped her lips.

Empty coffee mugs littered the counter, a half-finished jigsaw puzzle sat abandoned on the table, and the TV blared a daytime talk show she hadn't even been watching.
