Gemotions

A chill snaked through Amelia, despite the warmth of the summer afternoon. She stared at the cookbook, the glossy pages showcasing her "Blackberry & Basil Jam." She recognised the photograph instantly.

Her hands, usually busy in the kitchen, were now clenched in tight fists. Her heart began to race. The recipe, a carefully guarded secret, was her grandmother's. She had labored over it for years. She thought she would have a moment of happiness.

She pushed back from the table. The air was thick and heavy, and she needed to leave. Stepping outside, she walked, fast, to find some relief. The sun felt harsh on her skin, and she felt alone.
