Gemotions

He sat on the curb, the dust settling around him like a shroud. The house was gone. Reduced to nothing. John stared at the empty space, feeling completely unmoored, adrift.

He ran his hand through his hair, a gesture of helplessness. He had spent his life building walls, both literally and figuratively. Now, one of the most important ones was gone, leaving him exposed.

He remembered his younger self, full of life and laughter. He could feel that boy inside of him, screaming. He bit down on his lip, his eyes glistening, and looked away.
