He ripped the letter in half, then again, and again, the pieces accumulating on the floor like confetti from a particularly cruel party. He glared at the shredded remains, his chest aching with a raw, unfamiliar pain. He’d built his hopes around this, sacrificed everything.

He paced the room, a caged animal, each step a testament to his rising frustration. The walls seemed to close in on him, the air growing thick and hard to breathe. He threw himself on the couch, burying his face in a cushion, trying to muffle the sound of his ragged breaths.

He didn't want to talk, he didn't want to explain. He just wanted the feeling to pass.
