Liam rehearsed his speech in the bathroom, staring at his reflection. His hair looked a mess, his eyes were bloodshot. He'd barely slept in days. The speech was supposed to be a celebration, a tribute, but all he felt was resentment.

He’d spent years trying to live up to his father's standards, always falling short. Now, he was expected to stand up in front of everyone and pretend it had all been worth it. He splashed cold water on his face, trying to compose himself.

The party itself was a blur. The laughter, the music, the forced camaraderie – it all grated on his nerves. When his name was called, he felt a sharp stab of anxiety. He walked to the podium, his legs heavy, the words sticking in his throat.
