The weight of it pressed down on Emily. *Company Acquired*. The words seemed to mock her from the screen. She felt a sudden, sharp pain in her temples, a headache that wouldn't let up. She felt a nervous energy bubbling beneath her skin.

She stood up abruptly, knocking over her chair. It clattered to the floor, the sound echoing in the sudden silence. She quickly righted the chair, her face flushed with embarrassment.

She felt a desperate need to escape, to find a place where she could breathe, to escape this growing panic. She grabbed her bag and walked out, not looking back.
