He hadn't been sleeping well since the news. The sleep he was getting felt more like a brief blackout, followed by waking up in a cold sweat. He stared at the ceiling, the darkness pressing in on him. His mother had been so apologetic, so full of explanations, but none of it seemed to lessen the impact. A half-brother.

The world suddenly felt unstable, as if the ground beneath him had shifted. He sat up, pushing the covers away. The apartment felt too small, the air thick and heavy. He felt a strange sort of dread, the feeling hanging in the air.

He got out of bed, walking over to the window. The city lights twinkled in the distance, a cold, indifferent reminder of the vast world outside. He felt lost and profoundly alone. He felt a deep sense of disorientation, and the thought of facing the day ahead filled him with unease.
