The coffee cup trembled in Leo’s hand, sloshing dark liquid onto his meticulously organized desk. He swallowed hard, forcing down the lump that had lodged itself in his throat. His meticulous plan, the one he had nurtured and carefully constructed for almost a year, was… a shared experience. He felt a dull ache in his temples, a headache beginning.

He closed his eyes, picturing the faces of the investors, their carefully crafted smiles now likely tinged with… what? Disappointment? Amusement? He felt a flicker of heat in his cheeks. He had wanted this, needed this. Now, the victory was diluted, shared, and possibly lost. He opened his eyes, the fluorescent lights of the office seeming to mock him.
