Gemotions

The cramped confines of her apartment seemed to shrink with each passing day. Ms. Evans stared at the bills piling up on the table, a cold knot forming in her gut. She’d been working two jobs, barely keeping her head above water, and she was growing increasingly desperate. She felt like she was trapped in a slow-motion car crash.

A knock. It was David, one of her former students. He offered a small, woven basket overflowing with freshly baked bread and homemade jam. He kept his eyes averted. "I know things can be tough," he mumbled. "Just… thought you might appreciate this."

The aroma of the bread, warm and inviting, triggered a strange, almost overwhelming wave of emotion.
