"Just breathe," Sarah muttered under her breath, staring at the ceiling tiles. They looked remarkably dull. The waiting room's silence was deafening, the fluorescent lights harsh. She hated hospitals. Especially now. The fear coiled in her gut, a familiar visitor these past few months.

A call of her name jolted her from her thoughts. The doctor’s face was grave, but his words, for once, offered something other than bleak pronouncements. "We have a breakthrough. Another patient, diagnosed with the same, unusual condition. There’s a specialist coming."

Hope, fragile as a butterfly's wing, fluttered in her chest.
