Liam stared out the rain-streaked window, the city lights blurring into an indistinguishable haze. His hands, usually steady, were now clasped so tightly they ached. He’d discovered the manuscript last night, hidden amongst Sarah’s meticulously organized files. It was about their relationship, but filtered through a lens of… something he couldn't name. Resentment? Longing?

He took a shaky breath, the air thick with the scent of old books and unspoken things. The “Liam” in the novel was portrayed as weak, indecisive, a shadow of the man he saw in the mirror.

He rubbed his temples, a dull ache throbbing behind his eyes. He went to bed that night, but didn’t sleep.
