"Condos," Clara muttered, staring at the glossy brochure the concierge had handed her. Luxury living. Balconies with city views. She tossed the brochure onto the kitchen table with a thump.

The city views were the only thing that excited her. Everything else caused an uncomfortable pressure in her chest. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. The building was already starting to feel alien, populated by strangers with excited plans.

She poured herself a glass of wine, then another. The alcohol did little to calm her. The thought of the impending changes, the displacement, the financial strain, gnawed at her, making it impossible to relax. She felt a profound sense of unease settle over her.
