“Did you see how high that scaffolding is going?” Mark asked, his voice strained. He hadn’t spoken to his sister in weeks, but the constant noise had finally pushed him to call. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn't realized he was doing. The building materials were piled up against the shared fence, blocking his view.

His sister’s voice was calm, a stark contrast to his own mounting agitation. “It’s just a remodel, Mark. Relax.” He couldn’t. He couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched, the sense of something shifting, something unsettling. The project seemed to grow larger each day, its presence looming over his life.
