Gemotions

The familiar scent of coffee no longer soothed her. David, usually humming in the mornings, moved with a strange, furtive energy. She noticed him furtively checking his phone under the table during breakfast, then rushing to answer it when it rang. The way he jumped startled her.

She excused herself from the table, claiming she had to run to the store. The idea of staying there, feeling his watchful gaze, was too much.

As she drove, she found herself replaying scenes in her head. The way he’d started taking the calls outside, even in the rain. The way his hands trembled when he thought she wasn't looking. A feeling of dread weighed her down, a leaden weight in her chest.
