"This can't be happening," I mumbled, the words a hollow echo in the stillness. My hands trembled as I took another step forward. The absence of my car was like a gaping wound in the familiar landscape of my driveway.

I ran a hand through my hair, a nervous habit I usually didn't notice. I felt like the world was closing in on me. The air was too thin, too close.

My gaze snapped to the neighbor's house, then back to the empty spot. I needed to get this sorted, but my feet felt rooted to the ground. A feeling of utter helplessness washed over me.
