The silence in the apartment was deafening, a stark contrast to the usual cheerful chatter. Liam tapped his foot impatiently. Chloe was late. He heard a rustling sound from the bedroom, followed by the soft click of a door. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end.

He followed the sound. Chloe was standing in front of the mirror, her head bent. He heard her speaking, the rhythmic cadence a language he did not recognize. Her expression was serious, her focus intense. The words were rolling off her tongue like they were native to her.

"Chloe?" His voice was a strained whisper. She turned around, and he noted a flash of... something... in her eyes before it was quickly masked. He felt a subtle shift in the air, a sense of distance growing between them.
