Gemotions

The old photographs, unearthed from a box in the attic, were a mistake. The smiling faces, the idyllic scenes of family life, were at odds with the knowledge of the couple's tragic end. A fire, ruled accidental, but suspicion lingered.

She walked through the kitchen, touching the counter. Each movement felt sluggish, heavy. Every shadow seemed to move.

She felt like she was being watched. The air was thick, like a suffocating blanket. She had never been sensitive to the past, but the energy in the house was now different.

She wanted to call her sister, to talk, to hear a comforting voice. But the phone was just a phone. She locked the doors, drew the curtains, and spent the night staring at the ceiling.
