The discovery of the old diary, hidden beneath the floorboards, had been a shock. The previous owner, a young woman, detailed her fear, her growing sense of isolation, culminating in a series of cryptic entries about a stalker. And then, silence. A missing person case.

She closed the diary, her hands trembling. The words on the page had brought the house alive. The house suddenly felt wrong, unfamiliar. The sounds that she had previously dismissed as the normal noises of an old house now seemed sinister.

Her breath came in shallow, rapid bursts. She glanced out the window, every shadow seeming to twist and morph.

She reached for her phone. It was time to call someone, anyone. A friend, the police, a therapist. She needed to talk.
