The elevator ride felt interminable. He tapped his foot incessantly, the rhythmic sound echoing in the metal box. The building’s lobby was filled with hushed voices and the scent of expensive perfume. As he walked toward the indicated office, he tried to remember the last time he felt this sort of... prickliness in his skin.

He stopped, momentarily paralyzed, when he saw the nameplate. “Dr. David Miller, Licensed Therapist.” He knew David Miller. He forced himself to knock, each rap echoing too loudly in the hallway.

The door swung inward. "Come in, please," the doctor said. His voice was steady, but something in his gaze made the blood in his veins turn cold.
