The courtroom felt suffocating, the air thick with tension. The gallery seemed to be closing in on him. James, the plaintiff, cleared his throat and adjusted his tie, which felt suddenly constricting. He watched as the opposing counsel introduced the evidence, a series of documents. They were his documents.

His patent application, his research findings, his prototype schematics… They were all presented, meticulously and exactly. The color drained from his face. His heart hammered in his chest. A buzzing filled his ears.

He sank back in his chair, feeling utterly lost. He wanted to shout, to protest, but the words wouldn't come. He just sat there, frozen in place.
