David felt a knot tighten in his stomach as the police car pulled up. He hadn’t been expecting this. The neighbor’s complaints had always been just that – complaints.

He watched from the window, his chest constricted. He took a few deep breaths, but the air felt thin. He had been playing the music for all the other neighbors, it was just the new one. He hadn’t thought about the volume. Now, the officer was walking toward the front door.

He found himself pacing, unable to remain still. He was a good neighbor! He felt like he should just hide.
