"Look, I just don't understand," Leo muttered to himself, pacing his small apartment. The rent was due, and he was struggling to keep up. He’d meticulously planned everything, climbed the ladder, and now a recent graduate was earning more. He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it standing on end. He felt a sharp pang of envy, a burning sensation in his chest. He kicked a stray shoe across the floor. He should be further ahead. His stomach churned as he imagined the conversation he had yet to have with his boss.
