Gemotions

Clara felt a constant low hum of discontent that seemed to vibrate through her bones. She wandered aimlessly through the used bookshop, the scent of aged paper doing little to soothe the restlessness in her limbs. She picked up a copy of *Pride and Prejudice*, choosing it at random, its spine broken and its pages dog-eared.

She sank into a worn armchair, the fabric cool against her skin. She flipped through the pages, her gaze skipping over the words, her mind elsewhere. Then, a folded piece of paper fluttered out. It was a note, written in a spidery hand.

“If you are reading this, know that I wished for something more...” the letter began, and Clara found herself suddenly, acutely interested. She read on, the writer's yearning echoing her own. The words felt like an admittance of everything she knew to be true.
