He slammed the textbook shut, the sound echoing in the cramped dorm room. Liam couldn't focus. The scholarship, his golden ticket, ripped away. He kicked at a stray sock, sending it skittering under his bed. The cheerful posters he'd hung felt like hollow advertisements for a life that was now out of reach. He felt a burning sensation behind his eyes, a familiar sting, and he angrily swiped at them. The thought of facing his parents, of admitting failure, was a bitter pill he couldn't seem to swallow.
