He hadn't been to his aunt’s house in years, and the old furniture seemed to shrink the space even more. David, however, knew he was obligated to go there. He felt the familiar weight of responsibility. His aunt wanted him to look at the photos.

A picture lay on the table. It showed his great-grandfather, a man known for his rigid adherence to tradition, smiling, holding hands with a woman who was not his wife. He had always been told that his great-grandfather was devoted to his family.

David felt the ground shift under his feet. He felt his face flush. He was overcome with a powerful sense of something he couldn’t quite identify. He felt a need to escape.
