The rain hammered against the windows, mirroring the rhythm of Sarah’s restless thoughts. She was trapped, suffocated by the routine of her life. The monotony of her job, the predictable nature of her relationship, the endless cycle of the same days.

Cleaning out her grandmother’s house, she found a small, locked wooden box. Inside, a letter: her grandmother's resignation from her teaching position, dated 1968. The words were simple, yet laced with a deep sadness.

Sarah traced the faded ink with a trembling finger. The letter spoke of dreams deferred, of a passion extinguished. The knowledge that her grandmother had felt this way too settled over her, heavy and oppressive. The taste of ash rose in her throat.
