Gemotions

The doorbell rang. She was not expecting company. She cautiously opened the door to see a small, wrapped box resting on the porch. Inside, a collection of lavender sprigs, tied with a satin bow. No note.

She walked back inside and set the flowers on the table. The sharp scent of lavender didn't help. A dull ache throbbed behind her eyes.

She decided to make herself a cup of tea, and stared at the purple flowers. They reminded her of someone, but she couldn't quite place the memory. She felt empty.
