He didn't bother to check the email. It was his sister who found it and sent him the link. The old college. They were using his essay. He hated this feeling, the one that made him want to stay in bed all day and eat nothing but stale chips.

He remembered writing it, fueled by a mixture of anxiety and a desperate need to impress. Now, the words felt like an accusation, a constant reminder of the person he wasn’t anymore. The apartment felt cold, the walls closing in. He stared out the window, at the gray, indifferent sky, and the emptiness echoed inside him. He didn’t want to go anywhere. He didn’t want to do anything.
