Gemotions

The ring sat on the counter, gleaming under the harsh fluorescent lights. He had to be sure. He picked it up and held it to the light, recognizing the subtle scratch on the band. It was the ring.

He shifted uncomfortably, his gaze darting around the shop. The other customers seemed to stare at him. He felt exposed, vulnerable. His skin prickled with a sudden chill.

“How long…how long has it been here?” His voice sounded strained, almost too loud in the quiet shop. He awaited the answer with a feeling he couldn't name.
