Gemotions

He woke up in the dark, heart hammering against his ribs. The unfamiliar silence of the house, the lack of street noise, pressed in on him. He sat up, his body trembling. He was back. Back in the house that had once felt like a sanctuary, now a source of deep unease.

He got out of bed, padded across the floor to the window. The moon cast long shadows across the familiar landscape. He longed for the days when the future held promise, not a constant ache of disappointment. He found himself pacing in the small room, a prisoner in his own history.
