The trainer's voice was firm. "We're switching you to receiver, Johnson." He, a linebacker, felt a jumble of emotions rise in his gut. A receiver required speed, grace, coordination. Traits he was not known for. He felt a sense of wrongness, an incongruity.

He looked at the receivers, their lithe bodies effortlessly gliding through drills. They looked like creatures from another planet. His own body felt heavy, his joints creaking as he stretched.

He tried to catch a pass, the ball bouncing off his hands. He felt his face flush with shame.
