Gemotions

He stared at the blank space where his pickup truck had been, his jaw clenching. He hadn't expected to see this. He hadn't been expecting anything, really, just the usual morning. He ran a hand through his already messy hair, leaving it standing on end. He was supposed to be leaving for work in ten minutes.

He reread the bright yellow sticker on the door, its bold lettering screaming the reason for the absence. The details made no sense. He knew he'd parked legally. He squinted, trying to make the words cohere, but his vision blurred. He felt a prickling sensation across his scalp, as if every hair was standing at attention.

He went back inside, grabbed a coffee, and found he couldn't swallow a drop. He felt a compulsion to look out the window. He did so over and over again, each time more bewildered, more… uneasy. The street seemed to stretch on, mocking his confusion.
