The coffee mug trembled in Liam’s hand. He stared at the screen, at the pixelated image of his teenage handwriting, reproduced in stark black and white. It was… mortifying. The words, his awkward adolescent pronouncements on everything from girls to existential dread, were there for the world to see. He slammed the laptop shut, the abrupt action making his heart thud against his ribs. He felt a sudden, sharp heat creeping up his neck.

He paced the length of his small apartment, the worn rug a familiar comfort beneath his feet. He picked up his phone, then hesitated, his thumb hovering over the number of the woman who’d sent him the link. He'd never expected anything like this. He sat down on the sofa, breathing deeply, his chest feeling constricted. He wanted the whole thing to vanish, to rewind time and scrub the internet clean.

He should probably try to contact her. Maybe plead with her.
