"So, The Rusty Kettle is closing, huh?" The words, casually spoken by her coworker, sliced through her day like a shard of glass. She gripped her pen so tightly the plastic creaked. She didn't respond, just nodded, the action feeling detached, as if she were watching herself from outside her body. She found it hard to focus on the task at hand, the numbers on the spreadsheet blurring before her eyes. An internal storm had begun brewing, and she wanted to be left alone to figure it out.
