The old book, a first edition of *Frankenstein*, felt heavy in her hands. The letter, slipped inside, detailed a scientific experiment, an act of creation. Sarah, a scientist herself, found the words unsettling, disturbing. The room suddenly seemed darker, the shadows deeper.

She rose and walked to the window, the letter still clutched in her hand. The streetlights outside cast long, distorted shadows that danced with the movement of the wind.
