The realtor’s words, "Such a charming property," rang hollow in Leo's ears. He could feel his pulse hammering in his ears as he walked through the kitchen. The wallpaper, faded floral patterns, felt like it was watching him.

He hated the silence. He hated the way the sun was hitting the old furniture, making the room look both familiar and strange at the same time. He needed music, some kind of noise to break through the disquiet.

He opened a cupboard, the hinges groaning in protest. Inside, a stack of chipped porcelain plates gleamed in the dim light. He slammed the door shut, the noise echoing through the empty house. Something about the stillness of this place was getting to him, making him restless.
