The antique music box sat on the mahogany table, its delicate inlaid flowers reflecting the dim light of the dining room. Aunt Millie was talking, her voice a shrill drone, about "downsizing" and the need for funds. Sarah shifted in her seat, the lace of her dress suddenly constricting her chest. It was the same table where, as a child, she’d sat at her grandfather's feet, listening to the music box's tinkling melody.

A bead of sweat trickled down her temple. The air felt thick, heavy with unspoken desires and the weight of history. She focused on the intricate pattern of the rug, a dizzying swirl of burgundy and gold, as if the motion might ground her.
