Gemotions

The phone rang again. It had been ringing all morning. Ben stared at the caller ID – his agent. He didn't pick it up. He remained seated. He hadn't eaten. He hadn't moved from the kitchen chair since he read the email. His usual morning coffee remained untouched, growing cold on the counter.

The apartment walls seemed to be closing in, shrinking with each passing moment. He felt a constant tension in his jaw. The silence in the apartment was deafening, amplified by the drumming of his own pulse.

He finally reached for the phone, answered it, and hung up. He did not say a word. He looked at the window. The world seemed bright, almost hostile.
