He stared at the control panel, his eyes darting from button to button. He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to press them all at once. He forced himself to remain still, forcing himself not to do something that would worsen the situation.

The air grew stuffy, and he felt a wave of nausea wash over him. He opened the collar of his shirt, gasping for breath. The metallic tang of fear filled his mouth.

He listened to every creak, every groan, every mechanical whisper of the elevator, as if they held a secret code to freedom. He ran his hand through his hair, over and over, leaving it in a state of disarray. He hated the enclosed feeling.
