He avoided the garage. He’d always loved working on cars, a classic car restoration project. His daughter, Chloe, had inherited his passion, but transformed it into something else entirely. The tools were meticulously organized. The engine parts were gleaming. It was more than enthusiasm; it felt like a surgical operation.

He now felt an unfamiliar tremor in his hands when he approached the garage door. He’d catch himself staring at the old photographs in the house, the ones with him standing beside the finished projects. Chloe had started replicating some of them with a strange dedication.

“Going out tonight, Dad?” he heard Chloe's voice from inside. The garage door creaked open, revealing her silhouetted form.

"Yeah," he replied, his voice barely audible. He turned and walked away, the sound of metal clanging lingering in the air.
