Gemotions

Rain lashed against the window of Daniel's cramped studio apartment, mirroring the turmoil within him. He held the eviction notice close to his face, the stark black ink blurring slightly. His chest felt constricted. A wave of heat washed over him, followed by a chilling sensation, like icy water had been poured down his spine. He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the strands.

He went over to the worn-out mirror in the hallway and stared at his reflection. His face was pale. His eyes were wide. He felt like he had been punched. He tried to take a deep breath, but it got stuck in his throat.

He threw the notice onto the small, cluttered table. The clatter of the paper seemed deafening. His heart pounded in his chest, a frantic drumbeat against the silence. He started to hum, a nervous, off-key melody, to try and regain some sense of control.
