The vibrant colors of the artwork on the walls of Ethan's apartment seemed to fade, becoming muted and dull. He stood frozen in the middle of his living room, the eviction notice clutched in his trembling hands. His usually confident stance was replaced with a slouched posture. His shoulders were slumped.

He re-read the words, the legal jargon suddenly a brutal and immediate reality. He felt a throbbing sensation in his temples. He needed to get away, to escape. He turned towards the door, then stopped. Where would he go?

He began to walk through his apartment, touching the objects he owned. His favorite book. His grandfather’s watch. He felt a sudden, overwhelming sense of loss, as though everything he cherished was already gone.
